Gem of the Ocean is a 2003 play by August Wilson that serves as the chronological beginning of his famous ten-play American Century Cycle, which explores the Black American experience across each decade of the 20th century. In spiritual turmoil, a new life is sought and a magical journey across history and time is undertaken
