About the Show

This October, Alzheimer’s takes center stage in The Waning Hours, a poignant and visually arresting play that follows Lorna Bray Tucker—a once-vibrant woman losing her grip on reality. After more than four decades of marriage, Lorna’s world is shattered when her husband leaves her for a younger lover. Still reeling from the heartbreak, she begins a slow, irreversible descent into memory loss.

Once an aspiring singer and amateur photographer, Lorna now drifts between the present day and vivid fragments of her past. Through a series of moving vignettes, audiences witness her struggles with Alzheimer’s disease, the toll it takes on her loyal housekeeper Madeline and her devoted son Arlo, and the haunting emergence of her 22-year-old self—a hopeful young woman chasing dreams in 1960s Philadelphia during the height of the civil rights era.

Set entirely in Lorna’s kitchen—the heart of her home and her memories—The Waning Hours mirrors the thought process of someone living with moderate Alzheimer’s. Tinged with loss, humor, and nostalgia, the play explores the songs, memories, and choices that define a life and asks the audience to consider: Who do we become when time slips away?

Directed by Terra Hodge, The Waning Hours is a tender, thought-provoking work that blends heartache with hope.
